Long Term Disability (LTD) is a disability plan that provides benefits after an employee suffers a qualifying disability that continues over an extended period of time and exceeds any eligibility waiting period. Employees must remain disabled for a pre-determined period of time, commonly referred to as an elimination period, before receiving benefit payments. LTD plans provide the employee with a certain amount of benefits for a specified period of time. The length of time may be impacted by the member's age at the time he or she became disabled. LTD benefits can be insured or can be self insured by the employer.
You are covered for a percentage of your predisability earnings for a specified length of time. Note that Aetna may require you to undergo rehabilitation services to facilitate your return to work. The LTD benefit you receive under an Aetna plan may be reduced by other income you are eligible to receive. Certain types of disabilities are not covered under your LTD plan. Contact your employer for more details.
Not all benefit plans are available to all members. If you do not know which benefits are available through your Aetna disability plan, or want a complete list of exclusions and limitations, please contact your benefit administrator.
