Flexible Work Arrangements

We think everyone wins with flexible work arrangements. You have a balanced career and personal life. We have a talented, focused workforce.

Here are some of the options we offer.

With today’s technology, your office can be anywhere you are. Our telework arrangements include these workplace models:

  • Share —You divide your work time between an Aetna office location and an out-of-Aetna office
  • Home-Based —You work primarily from your home.
  • Mobile —You work from your home and from other alternate work locations.
  • Client-Based -- You work mainly from an Aetna client’s facility.

As a teleworker, you may be working on your own — but you won’t be going it alone. Teleworking may be different from what you’re used to. That’s why we offer training courses for teleworkers and their managers.

Part time
Part-time work gives you more flexibility to meet personal needs. This way, you can have time for work – and time for medical appointments, child care, continuing education or other commitments. Part-time work is also a great option if you’re nearing retirement. You can cut back your work hours, while still staying involved with your job.

Part-time employees work at least 20 hours per week. But you can have an uneven weekly schedule, if you need to. That means you could work 24 hours one week and 32 hours the next week, for example. So no matter how your life changes, you’ll know that your job can keep pace. Part-time work schedules may also include job-sharing, which is a full-time position shared by more than 1 person.

Temporary positions let you gain valuable experience — and exposure — in various positions throughout Aetna. These positions can help you get a foot in the door, whether you’re just starting out or returning to work later in life. Temporary positions are available for people at all career levels. You can work full-time or part-time schedules. And seasonal opportunities are also available.

There may be a time when you need to be out of the office for an extended period. We offer several options:

Family and medical
You will have up to 16 weeks of job-protected leave in a rolling 12-month period. Events that qualify are:

  • Family leave
  • Family medical leave
  • Employee medical leave

Military leave
Regular U.S. employees may take military leaves of absence.  This can be for voluntary or involuntary duty in a uniformed service. It does not matter how long you have worked for us.

Personal leave
You may ask for an unpaid leave of absence. Some suitable reasons are completion of job-related education, child rearing or socially responsible activities.

Not all of these options are open to everyone. Make sure to find out what’s available to you.
